The CORE Principle Our study model has a name: The CORE Principle
At our university we combine the acquisition of skills and the joy of learning. We place active and independent learning at the heart of everything we do. Only those who act and learn independently can surpass themselves, acquire knowledge and skills and take on responsibility for themselves and for others.
Students at SRH University Heidelberg possess all they need for the working world: knowledge, skills and key qualifications.
5-week blocks – intensive and lasting
You immerse yourself intensively for five weeks in a practical question and take a maximum of two subjects per 5-week block.
At the end of each 5-week block (eight or nine times a year) you sit for a competence-based exam. This way you get continuous feedback on your performance.
Start your professional life with competence
We have focused on ensuring that our courses are competence-oriented. This allows you to apply your knowledge in practice as soon as you start in your first job. This is what makes you so attractive in the job market.
You can connect and reproduce the acquired knowledge, recognize relationships, understand important theories and master technical language.
You can work in a team, focused on goals and results.
You can apply efficient strategies and techniques, adapted to each situation.
You can manage yourself and therefore reflect upon and further develop your professional behavior conscientiously and independently.
Only those who know the goal will find the way
We harmonize learning objectives, contents, teaching methods and examination forms. This consistent focus on constructive alignment is a feature of all of our courses.
Show what you can do Sit-in exams are often not the appropriate form of examination. We do not want you to learn textbooks by heart – we want you to be able to immediately test your knowledge on practical applications. You’ll be surprised by our exams!
In a station test, you can show your technical and methodological expertise at several stations, in which you solve realistic tasks within a specified time in practical, oral or written form.
In the station test, you can show your technical and methodological expertise at several stations, in which you solve realistic tasks within a specified time in practical, oral or written form.
In your presentation, you demonstrate that you can clearly present a topic you have researched to an audience and are able to respond competently to questions, suggestions and discussion points (technical, methodological and social skills).
The project showcases your ability to evaluate and solve concrete problems autonomously and in a team (technical, methodological, social and personal skills).
Active learning is fun and sustainable Learning mostly takes place in small groups, in which a variety of teaching methods are applied.
Together with other students, you reenact a situation (such as a conflict, a decision process or a specific communication situation) in a playful manner. During the role play you critically question, discuss and reflect upon the various role behaviors (technical, methodological, social and personal skills).
In simulations, you and your group are confronted over a longer period of time with a practical situation, designed to be as realistic as possible. This provides you with insights into problems and relations and teaches you to make decisions and evaluate the consequences of your actions (technical, methodological, social and personal skills).
In the cooperative teaching method called team teaching, two or more people jointly conduct a course. This exercise, which simultaneously places you in the position of learner and teacher, allows you to learn about and experience a wide range of perspectives, methods and suggestions (technical and methodological skills).
In the one-minute paper exercise, you actively engage with the material by, for example, writing down your learning outcomes and any open questions in one minute at the end of a teaching/learning unit (technical, personal skills).
In order to be fully competent in the various teaching and examination methods of the CORE principle, all teachers undergo a twelve-day training course. A number of other workshops on the subject of teaching and learning further enhance the training offer for our teachers.
